Immigration & Asylum Law with Josh Asokan

I hope everybody’s enjoyed their Easter weekend - be it vacationing abroad or staycationing at home, devouring chocolate easter eggs or simply enjoying the extra 2 days of no work.

Here at LegalTea, we’ve been brewing some important tea in response to an area of law that’s been making the headlines for several years now, but also very recently as well: Immigration & Asylum Law. Be it the political slogans of ‘taking back control’ or political plans to deport refugees to Rwanda, we wanted to bring on an expert on the area to give us an insight into the world of Immigration & Asylum Law.

So here to help spill the tea on this area this week is Josh Asokan, a Senior Immigration Caseworker in Immigration & Asylum Law at Oxfordshire-based law firm, Turpin & Miller LLP. Josh has also founded Odyssey Ensemble, a brand new orchestra dedicated to advocating for the dignity of vulnerable migrants in the UK through the power of music.

In the episode we discuss what Immigration & Asylum Law is, the day-to-day life of an Immigration Lawyer, and some of the biggest misconceptions people have about immigration and asylum seekers.

We also discuss Josh’s work with Odyssey Ensemble, how he handles the emotional toll of the work, and how people can enter into this field.
